Both Careers Zones opened on the 8th December 2014, 5 months ago today, and we’ve taken the opportunity to look back at what’s happened in that time!
Both zones were laid out with computers, booklets and made accessible for as long as the buildings they were based in to let you use them as and when you needed and wanted to.
Staffed by a team of 13 current students to help give you the student perspective on what the World of Work can offer you they have seen 3,000 students call in for a chat, appointment or to use a computer.
As soon as we were open we invited in some brilliant local, national and international employers to give you exclusive opportunities to ask some of the biggest graduate employers what it was they wanted from you and what you could expect from them!
These have included: Santander, KPMG, FDM, Royal Navy and Cheshire Police.
We plan to continue these visits from September and have already invited these and many more employers in to visit the zones.
We also invited in groups who offer brilliant opportunities to students such as: Camp America (pictured above), UK International Soccer and Gradstock.
These were all offering and continue to offer great opportunities for this summer and next for you to gain experience, network and enjoy yourself in the process and we will be focusing on bringing these and more to you in September to help you plan your next summer break!
We will also be improving our ties with other University departments having invited the School of Teacher Education and Professional Learning in to advertise their range of Postgraduate courses and the Postgraduate team to advertise funding options for further study we now have plans in place to work closely with Erasmus to help those students interested in working or studying abroad for all or part of their course or career!
Finally, what do we bring to the zones as a department?
Aside from our expert advisory team, coupled with our informed and passionate student staff we have a great range of information available to students no matter where your interests lie, just call in for a chat.
We also delivered 70 bite size sessions on how to build your LinkedIn profile and CV as well as finding work abroad and in the UK and these will be back in September for you to take advantage of!
There’s no denying it has been a whirlwind 5 months and we are staying open until Graduation to make sure we are as available to students as possible and of course all of our services will continue to run all summer at the Careers Zones, we’re just giving the student staff a well earned break!
This will give us 6 weeks to revamp, redecorate and reinvigorate our information to make sure it is as up to date as possible to get started on another academic year of bringing the World of Work closer to you!
