The Cosmetic Science Employer Event took place last week and was attended by employers such as Croda, Unilever, Brentag, The Hut Group and the Society of Cosmetic Science.
For any students who missed it, here are some key points from the event:
- All the employers stressed that the cosmetics business is a growing and profitable industry which offers a range of different job opportunities for graduates. Sam Grayson (from The Hut Group) said that consumers offer show ‘high brand affinity’ with cosmetic brands, which ensures continued turnover of products.
- As some of you may already be aware, both Croda and Unilever offer graduate schemes. (Unilever left some booklets about their future leaders graduate programme, and these can be found on a stand in Bryom Careers Zone). More information about Unilever’s future leaders graduate programme can also be found here: https://www.unilever.co.uk/careers/graduates/uflp/
- There are, however, many other entry points by which science graduates can gain entry to the cosmetics industry. For example, several of the employers said that the roles which they have available in the formulation of cosmetics, are open to science graduates from many different degree disciplines.
- Robert Dawson from Unilever said they use the recruitment agency ‘Manpower’ to recruit for some entry levels roles such as laboratory technician posts, which can offer graduates another way to gain a ‘foot in the door’ of this company.
The slides from the presentations each employer gave on the night are also available. Email careers@ljmu.ac.uk or call into Byrom Street Careers Zones and we will send them to you via your LJMU email account.
We also grabbed two quick videos of employers talking about the opportunities they have on offer. Here’s Sam Grayson from The Hut Group …
