Did you know that your Careers, Employability and Enterprise Team at LJMU produces career planning guides for your programme, school or faculty, packed full of useful information to help you make the most of your time at university and start planning and preparing for your future career? You can download yours from the online guides and resources section on our website. Below we look at five highlights you shouldn’t miss!

Meet your careers adviser
Each degree programme at LJMU has a dedicated careers adviser who works with your programme team to organise careers sessions in and alongside the curriculum. They also produce a range of useful resources, such as career insights for each course, and are available for one-to-one careers guidance appointments to help you plan your future. Check out their profile in the first couple of pages of your career planning guide.
Explore your career options
We don’t expect you to have a fully-fledged career plan when you arrive at LJMU, and we’re here to help you figure out your options. The information about possible career paths in your subject’s career planning guide is a great starting point for your research! Each guide also contains links to useful websites and signposts to professional associations to help you explore and build on your initial ideas.
Student and graduate profiles
Our case studies of current and former students are one of the most popular parts of the career planning guides. Apart from giving you an insight into the wide variety of career paths taken by graduates from your course and school, they are full of great peer-to-peer advice and tips on work experience, networking with employers, applications and interviews.
Practical advice for job-hunting and applications
Speaking of applications and interviews, we want you to show your best self to prospective employers, so have included lots of useful advice in your career planning guide to help you prepare effectively for job-hunting and the recruitment process. Check out our sample CVs and cover letter, application and interview tips, as well as guidance on online tests and assessment days.
Making the most of your time at LJMU
We work closely with many colleagues across the university and our Students’ Union JMSU to provide you with lots of great opportunities during your time at LJMU. Find out about working with JMSU, joining a student club or society, developing a business idea or ‘side hustle’, or your options for help and financial support for spending time abroad.
