I think it’s safe to say that writing CVs, writing about yourself with the intention sell yourself in a somewhat immodest way, is not an easy or comfortable task for anyone. Making sure you hit the ideal word count, whilst including enough about education, skills, experience and more, is really hard and it feels like it’s something we should all just ‘be able to do’ without much guidance. However, go on to the Career Zone 24/7 site and click on CV360 and you may just find your new academic best friend.
I recently used CV360 as I knew my CV needed some tweaking, but didn’t know exactly what it was I needed to tweak, and it’s safe to say it has been extremely useful. In school I was taught the basic requirements of a good CV and given a general idea of what to include and what not to include, but that’s about the limit of my knowledge about CVs. With CV360, you drop your CV file into the box and in a matter of seconds you’re given helpful, organised feedback as well as an overall score out of 100. The feedback categories are separated into file, presentation, structure, content, skills, and language, with each segment containing useful tips as well as commending the parts in which your CV excels in. The page is easy to navigate, quick to load, and packed with organised tips that really will help to give your CV that boost against others’.
During the process of using CV360, my score went from 68 to 84 as I edited then resubmitted and watched the score go up more and more each time. This whole process took a really short amount of time, especially when the extent to which my CV has improved is taken into consideration.
Although the university offers tutors and face-to-face help with CVs, it’s nice for those of us whose social batteries run a little lower or would rather avoid the anxiety of talking to someone in person or over zoom to have the option of computerised guidance. Similarly, as Career Zone 24/7 is (obviously) available for use 24/7, night owls: this one’s for you.
So, whether you’d rather avoid a personal meeting or whether you tend to get work done at night, or whether you just need a bit of help to boost your CV, CV360 can offer you advice and help on your CV whenever and wherever you need.
