Mia graduated from LJMU in 2024 with a degree in Physical Education and now runs a business called Girls2Goalz
What does your business do?
Girls2Goalz coaches, inspires and empowers the next generation of female footballers, ensuring they are playing with confidence and have access to coaching from current female professional footballers and the support needed to achieve their greatest.
How did you get the idea to start your business?
When I quit Liverpool FC in 2019, I always knew I wanted to set up something where girls had that support system and someone who believes in them.
How did the Start-Up Hub help and support you?
Financially they granted me £500 via the Bathgate Boost Award to get all my coaching equipment. My Business Adviser, Tom, helped me create a business model and gave real guidance on how businesses work and what it involves. He was always there when ever I needed questions answering and I know he will always be there for me whenever I need advice. I don’t just want to remain in the UK with Girlz2Goalz I want to go global and he already knows ways I can do this which is really exciting and amazing that I have access to someone with so much knowledge.
What has been the best thing about starting your business?
Seeing the players I coach grow in confidence, which allows them to play better. Seeing smiles on their faces when they turn up. Giving them opportunities to meet as many female footballers as possible so they can feel inspired.
What was your biggest challenge in getting started up??
Taking the leap to just do it.
What advice would you give to an LJMU student thinking of starting their own business?
Have a passion, have a vision, have a plan. And make sure you have some time each day to work on your business because the more work you put in the more you get out. It is tough especially when you’re getting started and still having to work alongside but wanting the business to be your main focus. Just ensure you figure out a schedule that works for you and don’t bite off more than you can chew or the foundations you have built may not be strong enough.
Are there any exciting plans for the future you can share with us?
We will see …
