Representatives from Evolution deliver a presentation to LJMU students about graduate job opportunities within the recruitment business

Luke Vickers (Data Science and Engineering Recruitment Consultant) and Pagan Donaldson (Talent Acquisition Manager) from Evolution, recently delivered a presentation to LJMU students, about the opportunities which the recruitment industry presents for graduates.  You can access the recording of their presentation here.  Evolution are a recruitment business whose employees source IT technical staff, on behalf of a wide variety of companies.  Their recruitment consultants place suitable candidates in job roles with these employers.

The speakers outlined the graduate job opportunities with Evolution, and the career progression which these schemes offer to graduates.  Both speakers stressed how prior experience in the recruitment business is not required for their graduate job opportunities, and Evolution accept applicants from any degree subject.  They also shared that the earning potential for those graduates, who join Evolution to work as a trainee recruitment consultant is £30,000 to £40,000, in their first year in the job.  There is higher earning potential and career progression, for recruitment consultants who perform to a high standard in their job role, and progress onto other more senior positions.

Luke Vickers graduated from LJMU with a degree in Physical Education & Sport Development and achieved a 2:1 classification.  Luke originally wanted to be a PE teacher but instead he went into roles in banking and customer service following his degree, and then chose to pursue a career as a recruitment consultant with Evolution.

Luke has participated in sporting activities from an early age, and he described how the culture in a sports team is similar to that of being in a recruitment environment.  He reflected on how both environments reward a competitive mindset, whilst still maintaining a supportive, team-based culture.  He recounted that the ‘people skills’ which he learnt in a sport setting can be used effectively in the job field of recruitment.  Luke suggested that those who enjoy competing in a sport environment may also enjoy the competitive culture in recruitment, as it is a financial, target-based business.  Luke stated: ‘if you are from a sporting background as well… and you want to be rewarded for being competitive then I really could not speak highly enough of this industry’.
