Recording of an employer presentation about the Scientist Training Programme

Student Futures were pleased to host a presentation recently from Jane Lynch (Training Director of the National School of Healthcare Science) about the Scientist Training Programme (STP).  The Scientist Training Programme offers successful applicants the chance to work in a three-year paid job with the NHS as a trainee clinical scientist, whilst gaining approved and accredited training in the workplace, relevant to a particular healthcare science specialism.

This presentation can be accessed here.

In this presentation, Jane covered topics such as the role of a healthcare clinical scientist, and the different specialisms which are available via the Scientist Training Programme.  She explained what the entry requirements are for the STP and then went on to talk about the structure of the STP, and the training which is provided via this programme.  Finally, Jane gave some advice about producing a successful application for the STP, and about the attributes which applicants need to demonstrate on their application form to stand out and to be successful in gaining a place on the STP.

The STP is currently accepting applications for trainee clinical scientist posts which start in the summer of 2024.  The closing date for applications is Monday 29th January.  There is a high level of competition for places on the STP and the competition ratios can be found here.  Therefore, students are advised to produce the strongest application which they can, and to also have a back-up plan and consider their full range of career options.

Students can arrange a meeting with one of our careers and employability advisers by using our online booking tool for careers meetings.  Our careers and employability advisers can check through a student’s application form before it is submitted.  The careers and employability advisers can also provide guidance about career options.
